Position
For me, narrative and research drive design, and technical and aesthetic choices are the same decision.
Research
01Architecture and glacier retreat
An extensive study of what a retreating glacier means for architecture. It follows the Aletsch Glacier as it withdraws: the terrain the ice leaves behind, the water it releases, and the huts, paths and bisses that depend on it.
The research is collected in When Ice Withdraws, a book of 230 pages that is part atlas and part argument, and it is the ground under the design of the Neues Konkordiahaus.

02Beyond the Lab: ecofeminism and material ecology
Beyond the Lab reads Neri Oxman's material ecology through ecofeminist theory. From Plumwood, Mies and Shiva, and Haraway I developed four principles, regenerative integration, participatory justice, adaptive decentralisation and localised self-sufficiency, and used them to assess four of Oxman's projects.
The finding: material ecology rethinks matter in valuable ways, but often leaves out who takes part in design and whose knowledge counts. Without that, sustainability risks becoming an image rather than a practice. The thesis argues for innovation that moves from optimisation to reciprocity.

Research interests
01Landscapes in transition
What architecture can do where the ground itself is changing: a retreating glacier, drifting dunes, a canal zone becoming a neighbourhood.
02Making hidden systems visible
Data and energy shape daily life without being seen. These projects give them a place you can walk into.
03Housing as a shared structure
Density, small homes and shared rooms: how living close together can strengthen a neighbourhood.
04Building with what is there
Extending a factory that already stands, casting walls with stone found on site, and testing ideas in physical models.
